The Duomo Apartment is named for its superb location
within Florence – it lies just a few steps away from the Duomo
(cathedral), one of the most remarkable buildings of this beautiful
Renaissance city. Sleeping 2+1, this air-conditioned Florence holiday
apartment is at Number 13, Via dei Calzaiuoli, Florence.
There is an elevator to the front door of your apartment (which covers
some 50m²) and when you descend to the ground floor once more, you’ll
find yourself in the very heart of historic Florence. Santa Maria del
Fiore, Florence’s cathedral, is one of the triumphs of medieval
Italian architecture. Crowned by the revolutionary dome designed by
Brunelleschi (he ordered that the bricks be laid in a herringbone
pattern to afford extra strength, and thus create the largest dome ever
constructed) it is a building of remarkable beauty. Its tower gives
marvellous views over the red-tiled roofs of Florence to the hills
beyond, and it makes up a superb medieval city centre alongside the
Baptistery and the Campanile.
Via dei Calzaiuoli, meanwhile, is one of the city's oldest streets,
leading to the Piazza della Signoria. This road was originally laid out
by the Romans but is now very much of the 21st century, bustling with
sightseers, gelaterie (ice cream parlours) and chic designer shops. This
superb location not only offers easy access to the Uffizi and other
galleries, with their collections of medieval and Renaissance Italian
art, but to the plethora of historic monuments around the Piazza della
Signoria. Nearby you’ll find the Palazzo Pitti, a one-time residence
of the ruling Medici family, and the palace’s beautiful formal garden,
Il Giardino di Boboli.
In fact most of the museums, monuments, schools, restaurants, pizzerias
and restaurants are within three minutes walk.
